Introduction to Counselling Children and Young People

Course Content:

  • BACP competencies familiarisation
  • Identifying subject areas from the BACP CYP curriculum

  • Ethical and Professional Practice

  • Child Protection and Safeguarding

  • Beginnings and Endings with CYP including risk assessment

  • Self-awareness  and 
  • Self-care of the Counsellor


    The course will combine theory, group and pair/triad work.


This course is aimed at counsellors and therapists who are working with children, or who are hoping to work with children, and would like to update or ensure their ethical practice.
Suitable also for anyone who works with children and would like insight into the principles around ethical therapeutic work with children.
 


Workshop 2:
Exploring a Young Person's Journey through Counselling

Full day £95

Following BACP competences, explore the young person's journey via:

Referral
Assessment
Contracting
Relationship Building
Endings

This course is aimed at counsellors or trainee counsellors who want to work with children and young people, or people thinking of counselling children and young people.
It will introduce the skills needed to work through the counselling process with the CYP.

The course will combine theory, group work, pair work and role play
The course provides 7 hours of CPD with a certificate of attendance and a number of resources, reading lists, Web links and practical advice.

Workshop 4:
Managing Anxiety

half day £45

Course content:

Looking at the causes of anxiety and working through a range of prctical techniques to manage anxiety and improve well-being.

This workshop is aimed at counselling practitioners, anyone working with children, or anyone wanting tips to manage their own anxiety.



Workshop 3:
Counselling in context:

Working in schools and  private practice

half day £45

Course content:

 Looks at what is needed to set up a counselling service in a school,  and the ethical rrequirements for working with CYP in private practice

This workshop is aimed at both counsellors and schools looking for practical guidance on what is needed to set up ethical counselling provision in a school, and counsellors looking for practical guidance on what is needed to set up ethical counselling provision for private practice working with children.


Workshop 5

Play and Creative ways of Working Therapeutically

half day £45

course content:
Looking at a range of activities to help children tell their story this workshop is fully experiential and will be
thought-provoking and hopefully fun.
We will practise both directive and non-directive methods of play therapy, and will look at some of the founders and origins of play therapy.

This workshop is aimed at counsellors and therapists looking to try a range of creative and play  ideas to incorporate into their therapeutic work with children.
